Development Impact Fee (DIF)
Impact fees are charges paid by new developments to help cover the cost of public services and facilities needed as communities grow. These fees help ensure that new buildings and residents contribute to the cost of services such as roads, parks, fire protection, and other public amenities.

The County of San Benito has had a Development Impact Fee (DIF) Program since the late 1980s. This program collects impact fees from new development to help fund essential public services and facilities. These include drainage, traffic and roads, fire protection, law enforcement, jails, parks and recreation, libraries, habitat conservation, general government buildings, and information technology.

Annual Development Impact Fee report:
This report provides information that the County is required to share with the public each year. California Government Code Section 66006(b) explains these requirements. For each impact fee fund, the report shows the purpose of the fee, the amount of the fee, the amount of money in the fund at the beginning and end of the year, and the amount of money collected and earned in interest. The report also explains how the funds were spent on public projects, lists any transfers or loans between funds, and includes information about any refunds made.
