What is Victim Compensation?
The California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB) is a state program dedicated to providing reimbursement for many crime-related expenses to eligible victims who suffer physical injury or threat of physical injury as a direct result of a violent crime.
What do we do?
Our Victim Services division assists victims with the processing of their victim compensation claims and any losses that are crime related.
How is CalVCB Funded?
CalVCB is funded by restitution fines, penalty assessments and the Federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).
CalVCB is not funded by taxpayer dollars.

- Crime scenes clean up
- Dental
- Funeral and burial
- Home or vehicle modification
- Income loss
- Loss of support for dependents
- Medical
- Medical equipment
- Mental health
- Relocation
Eligibility Requirements
- Crime documentation
- Apply within seven years of the crime
- Cooperation with CalVCB
- Cooperation with law enforcement
- This requirement does not apply to victims of police violence
- For victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault, cooperation can be limited to verification by a health or service provider
