Your Voice Matters! | ¡Tu voz importa!

In Fall 2025 we engaged the community in focus groups, interviews and educational sessions for all, to explain how the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) 2004 is transforming to the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) 2024.

Your experiences and ideas helped guide how we intend to use our Behavioral Health annual allocation to provide behavioral health services in our community, detailed in the BHSA Integrated Plan FY26.27 through FY28.29.

We would like to share the community feedback we received, so on April 29, 2026, we are holding a Zoom meeting in English and Spanish.

Background

In March 2024, California voters approved changes for how we use Behavioral Health funds to better serve those in our community with the greatest needs.

Mental Health funding for San Benito County continues under the new name of Behavioral Health and now includes help for recovery from drug and alcohol conditions as well as a focus on housing help for those in greatest need.

What This Means for You, Your Family, and Community:

  • Funding continues –our behavioral health budget is similar to before
  • Better focus - services will prioritize community members who need help the most
  • More housing and treatment - especially for those experiencing severe mental health or substance use challenges in addition to homelessness
  • Continued support - for outreach to find those who need early help, and offer them culturally responsive care
